An Overview of In-Ground Pools

The distinguishing feature among in-ground swimming pools is the kind of the liner used. Besides, the type of piscine interrate chosen determines the cost of using the pool and the maintenance costs. There are three main types of in-ground swimming pools, namely: Vinyl lined, concrete (gunite) and fiberglass pools. Here is an overview of these pools.

Vinyl lined in-ground pools

These pools have the lowest installation cost. They are available in different designs. Their shapes and sizes are customizable and hence no limitations in length, breadth and depth. Moreover, they feature a variety of colors and patterns. Vinyl pools are nonabrasive considering that they are soft in nature. Besides, these pools are made from an impervious material which hinders the growth of algae.pool

On the other hand, in-ground vinyl pools have various demerits. The pools require replacement after about every ten years of use They also require a lot of care while using them since they can be punctured easily. Vinyl lined pools have a lower resale value. When selling a home, a potential buyer may request for replacement of the liner before buying the house.

Fiberglass Pools

Fiberglass pools are made of a nonporous material which inhibits the growth of algae. This cuts down the maintenance costs as fewer amounts of chemicals to curb the growth of algae. The pools have non-abrasive surface and hence smooth and soft. Moreover, they do not need replacement and resurfacing which lowers lifetime costs.

Most fiberglass pools come with inbuilt seats and have steps attached to the shell of the pool. Furthermore, they are fast to install since the tanks are built in a factory and transported to the site. Besides, Fiberglass pools are available in limited shapes and designs since they are made from mold patterns. They have the limitation on the width since they are transported on roads. The pools are also expensive to install.

Concrete pools

Gunite poolConcrete or Gunite pools are durable and have no limitation on size and shape. The pools have flexibility in design as they can incorporate features like vanishing edges, tanning edges and beach entries. They also integrate various works of art which add on to the aesthetic value.

Besides, concrete pools have high lifetime costs. They require renovation after every 10-20 years. The surface of the concrete pools is extremely porous which allows growth of algae. More chemicals are needed to curb the growth of algae, which increases maintenance cost. Furthermore, concrete pools require regular sweeping using a pool brush to eradicate algae from the surface. The pools take a long time to install.…
